Neurotoxin
FUNCTION: Alpha-conotoxins act on postsynaptic membranes, they bind to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR) and thus inhibit them (PubMed:23533449). Is a specific blocker of the alpha-3-beta-4/CHRNA3-CHRNB4 image nAChR and may also block alpha-3-beta-4-alpha-5 (CHRNA3-CHRNB4-CHRNA5) channels (PubMed:23533449). Has possibly a distinct nAChR binding mode from other alpha-conotoxins, due to a different three residue motif (lacks the Ser-Xaa-Pro motif) (By similarity). In vivo, causes hyperactivity and behavioral disorders in mice following intracranial injection (PubMed:23533449). {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q2I2R8, ECO:0000269|PubMed:23533449}.
