Activity

Neurotoxin
FUNCTION: Kappa-conotoxins bind and inhibit voltage-gated potassium channels (Kv). Irreversibly inhibits Kv1 channels with a pore-blocking mechanism (PubMed:40324600). Causes slow but complete inhibition of Kv1.2/KCNA2 and Kv1.6/KCNA6 (PubMed:20403399, PubMed:40324600). Tested at 5 uM, the recombinant peptide (without gamma-carboxyglutamic acid (Gla) and C-terminal amidated Pro) also inhibits Kv1.1/KCNA1 (19%) and Kv1.4/KCNA4 (53%) (PubMed:40324600). In vivo, produces stiffening of body, limbs and tail when injected intracranially into mice (PubMed:17166627). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:17166627, ECO:0000269|PubMed:20403399, ECO:0000269|PubMed:40324600}.
