Activity

Neurotoxin
FUNCTION: Omega-conotoxins act at presynaptic membranes, they bind and block voltage-gated calcium channels (Cav). This toxin inhibits rat Cav2.2/CACNA1B calcium channels in a dose-dependent manner (EC(50)=2.8 uM), whose effect is partially reversed after washing. In vivo, when injected into mice, it shows both an analgesic effect in acute thermal pain at 30 and 45 minutes post-injection and an anti-nociceptive effect in a formalin chronic pain test. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:23567319}.
